The term "Black Silver" refers to solid silver with a legal fineness of 925/1000 that has been oxidized to a dark gray color. Black silver will develop a patina, and the treatment will fade in places to reveal the natural shine of untreated silver.

The term "Rose Gold" refers to 18-carat (750/1000) rose gold. A slightly redder alloy of gold and copper. Our rose gold has a higher copper content.

Black opal, for exceptional, deeper jewelry!

There are a wide variety of opal stones around the world, each with a different color, depending on its origin. Among them, black opal , or Australian opal, is certainly the rarest and most valuable. An opal is said to be black when the stone's tone is very dark.

The name " opal " comes from the Sanskrit term "Upala" from the Brahmanic civilization in India, which means " precious stone ."

We talk about Australian Opal when discussing black opal because it is on this continent that we find this semi-precious stone, rare in this very dark shade.

The peculiarity of opal stones is that they contain small spheres of silica which are reflected in the form of flashes of various colors when the stone is exposed to natural light.

A black opal stone has the same characteristics as any other opal but what makes it so special, rare and unique is the color of its matrix which is much more opaque, dark and even very dark than the others.

When you admire a black opal or any other type of opal, you feel like you are holding a mineral encrusted with multiple precious stones, so incredible are the plays of color.

To be able to offer you personalized and exceptional jewelry, set with a high-quality black opal, the jewelry artists of LEGION Paris work with a lapidary who travels directly to Australia, to the family concession that extracts opal from deposits using traditional and natural methods. You are thus guaranteed a high-quality opal stone that is the work of ethical and responsible extraction.

Black opal, for what style of jewelry?

Earrings, pendants, necklaces, rings, bracelets, the play of colors presented by black opal allows the creation of all types of jewelry even if certain precious metals lend themselves better to highlighting these natural stones.

Just as we like to work with dark stones such as Onyx, black spinel, obsidian, grey diamond and black diamond or even black moonstone, black opal invites us to be creative as its translucent appearance and the depth of its matrix allow us to stimulate our inspiration.

A property that we perhaps also owe to the virtues conferred on it by gemmology professionals who consider black opal as a gem that awakens the creative sense, imagination and originality.

The Australian black opal that we use to create the jewelry pieces in our collections or for the custom jewelry that we offer to make for you, is above all for the character and originality that it brings to a piece of jewelry. Whatever the size or shape of the stone, whether polished or left in a raw state, black opal allows you to reveal all the magnificence of a piece of jewelry to make it a stylish ornament.

What are the different opal stones?

There are several varieties of Opal found throughout the world, as well as on the Australian continent:

  • Black Opal , the rarest and most prized by lovers of beautiful precious stones and therefore the most expensive of the opal stones. The main deposits are found at Lighting Ridge in Australia.
  • White opal is primarily sourced from claims in and around the village of Coober Pedy, north of Adelaide in South Australia. This stone is called white because of its milky, translucent appearance, which reveals brightly colored reflections.
  • Boulder opal , which appears as an iron ore in which opal layers appear, is found primarily in Queensland, Australia.
  • Fire opal has a yellow, orange, and red appearance and color scheme reminiscent of flames, hence its name. This opal stone is found primarily in Central America and more commonly in Mexico.

An engagement, a birthday gift, Valentine's Day, or a special event to celebrate—there are so many reasons to offer a designer piece of jewelry that reveals all the subtleties and preciousness of a black opal. You're guaranteed to please with a necklace, bracelet, ring, or earrings in white gold or silver adorned with a unique black opal stone.

This is what the LEGION Paris creative workshop gives you access to: custom-made jewelry and collections with a unique creative sensibility!
